Both Alan and Jean loved to explore and in 1970 set off on an adventurous holiday to stay on a farm in Denmark. Alan drove the family car, caught the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg and set off across Denmark. We didn't speak the language but very soon became lifelong friends with the people we stayed with, visiting them often over the next 20 years. This first trip lead on to a foreign trip most years throughout Scandanavia and Europe.
